Here's a brief background
of the photos found in the web page header above.
The picture used in our header is of Jared on his
CRF250R out at CrossCreek Cycle Park in Paige, TX. He is jumping
a new double on the day track that was recently constructed.
This was a regular practice day, and all the elements were right
to capture a great picture. CrossCreek is considered to be our
home track, as this is where we got our start in Motocross. The
owner, Shawn Kriese works his butt off to make CrossCreek a
premier riding facility for Motocross, Trail Riding, and ATV's.
It's a great complex, with a day MX track, a well lit night MX
track, and acres of trails for riding. It's also great for
camping.
Although we took some awesome pictures on this day, it wasn't a
great day for the CRF. First, a rock got caught between the
chain and the front sprocket, breaking a tooth off the sprocket.
A little while later, the big end rod bearing went ballistic.
OUCH$$$$
This is Jared at the starting gate during a local
race at Cycle Ranch
Motocross Park in Floresville, TX. Cycle Ranch is considered to
be one of the premier tracks in Central Texas. The dirt is some
of the best to be found, and the prep is usually awesome. This
track is wide, fast, and normally, not too technical. It does
tend to get rough from braking and acceleration bumps all around
the track, especially around the natural uphill, and downhill
elevation changes. This track has everything, including
permanent restrooms, showers, concessions, bike wash, and a
parts and service business called Motoshack.
This is one of my favorite pictures of Jared. As a parent, this is
probably one of the most nerve wracking times of a race, and probably
where you have many of your conversations with the good Lord above. It's
also one of my most proud times. How he does in the race is never an issue.
Just have fun and do your best.
This is the finish line jump at the Austin DelValle Motocross
Park in DelValle, next to the Austin Bergstrom Airport. This
track has a great layout, and is a lot of fun. It is lit for
night practice and racing, and during the summer time here in
Central Texas, night racing is our favorite kind. At least it
cools down into the 90's. This jump can be seen from a side
angle in the Chevrolet truck commercials advertised in Texas.
This is a triple, camel backed jump that immediately turns
right down at the bottom. You can hit it at high speed if you do
the complete jump, but a little whip action to get the bike
facing into the turn is called for if you want maximum speed.
It's not a real dangerous jump, put we sure have assisted a few
riders that wadded up at the bottom.
This picture was taken by Joel Spring of rxdesign out at Cycle
Ranch. This is the finish line tabletop which is about 80 feet
in length. The face launches you pretty high if you hit it with
enough speed to land the downside. Jared is one heck of a
jumper, and can move his front end up and down at will.
Personally, if that were me with my front end that high, it
would be because I was falling off the back. Can you say "loop
out"?
This is not Jared! This is his dad, and company owner
Jess, participating in a local race out at Cycle Ranch on his
KX250F. This picture was also
taken by Joel Spring of rxdesign. Joel likes to change the angles
of his shots, and he really does a great job putting a little
more excitement into his photos by doing this.
This track is great for an old guy like me. It's wide, the
dirt has a ton of traction, and no terribly technical jumps on
the track. It is high speed, and tends to get braking and
acceleration bumps all throughout that can wear you down on a
hot day. This was the second moto late in the day, and the track
conditions were wonderful all day.
